Description
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a non-toxic, colorless, and odorless fluid used in vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from diesel engines. It is a key component of the modern emissions control system in diesel-powered vehicles, including trucks, buses, and some cars.
DEF is made up of approximately 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water. When injected into the vehicle’s exhaust stream, DEF reacts with the NOx emissions and converts them into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapor, significantly reducing harmful pollutants released into the environment.
The SCR system is becoming more common in diesel vehicles as governments worldwide enforce stricter emission regulations to improve air quality and reduce the environmental impact of diesel engines. Drivers need to ensure that their DEF tanks are regularly filled to maintain proper emission control performance.
